To conclude the 2011 Festival is a night to celebrate its past, present and future. For the first half of the concert the festival is delighted to feature cellist Pal Banda, a director of the Paxos International Festival from 1999-2004, and his partner, pianist and violinist Zsuzsa Berenyi, in a diverse range of duo repertoire.
The second half of the concert will feature young musicians of Paxos performing works prepared with the help of Paxos Festival tutors, including a guitar ensemble and soloists tutored by Duo Amythis. Many of the students will perform on instruments provided by the Trust for music education on the island.
We conclude the evening with a performance which will be created through a three-day Creative Music Workshop, led by Natasha Zielazinski and Michail Palaiologou. This workshop will offer an opportunity for musicians of all ages and abilities to participate in the creation of a new work which will take inspiration from the island of Paxos, exploring and giving creative expression to the sounds of the sea, of the island, and of daily Paxiot life. Using improvisation and experimentation to create a group sound, the project will be open to anyone and should be a fun and surprising way to end the festival!
